On May 26th, Mitsubishi Electric announced on its official website that they had reached a partnership with Coherent (formerly II-VI) to jointly expand the production scale of 8-inch SiC devices.
It is reported that the two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), and Coherent will supply 8-inch n-type 4H SiC substrates for future SiC power devices produced by Mitsubishi Electric in its new factory to meet the growing demand in the electric vehicle industry.
According to previous reports by experts, Mitsubishi Electric announced the construction of a new 8-inch SiC wafer factory in mid March this year. The factory will be located in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, mainly for the production of 8-inch SiC wafers, and will achieve efficient production by introducing state-of-the-art energy-saving cleanroom equipment. At the same time, Mitsubishi Electric will also strengthen its production facilities for 6-inch SiC wafers to further expand its business.http://www.ic-bom.com/
According to the announcement, Mitsubishi Electric will invest approximately 260 billion yen in the five-year period ending in March 2026, of which approximately 100 billion yen (approximately 5.1 billion yuan) will be used to build the new 8-inch SiC device factory and strengthen related production facilities.
Mitsubishi Electric stated that for many years, Coherent has been a reliable supplier of their 6-inch SiC substrates and is pleased to collaborate with them to expand their respective SiC manufacturing platforms to 8-inch sizes.http://www.ic-bom.com/
